The following 9 wines were tasted by over 30 members:
2001 Pelorus, Cloudy Bay, NZ
Some thought biscuity, others that acidity was a little on high side.
2000 Chablis G/Cru, Grenouille, La Chablisienne
Not a lot to say on nose or palate at first. It did open-up in the glass after several minutes - needed food?
2004 Chianti Classico, Isole e Olena
Great Chianti from a super vintage. Full of fruit, complexity and bitter cherries - lovely wine.
1996 Ch d'Angludet, Cru B., AC Margaux
Big wine to look at and taste. Nice to see 12.5% modest alc. Some loved this others were totally confused that this style of wine was a claret!
1995 Ch Talbot, 4em, AC St-Julian
Even bigger claret, dense and opaque in appearance. Still showing some youth and will go on for a few years yet - Great wine
1998 Mas la Plana, Torres, Spain
A star of the night to many. Almost New World in its inky intensity but with complexity and balance. A fine long finsish - 9 out of 10
2001 Ch de Beaucastel, Rhone
Another star and the red of the night for many. At first one is not sure of the baked nose but the wine blossoms in the glass and on the palate. A Parker 95/100 wine
2000 Wynn's Coonawarra Cabernet, Aus
It shouted New World and especially eucolyptus, spice and mint. A great wine now but with another 5 years it would add a whole new set of dimensions
1989 Ch Coutet, 1er Classé, AC Barsac
A star and approaching the perfect score of 10/10. You had to be there - words cannot describe its depth and glory |
